I read your book when I first found out I was hiv +. I will admit it helped a lot. Granted it has been two years but at times I still have not really been able to deal with it. I am scared to date because I don't want anyone else to go through this. Any advise would be helpful plz.

It's amazing how a person can speak up about a situation they haven't been placed in. Truth be told, if you don't have it, how do you know what you will and won't do?! Ms. Brown, I have much respect for you for being the person you are. What God has for you is for you, so continue to live your life and be proud of your self worth. You are a brave young lady. People think it can't happen to them. What make one individual different from anyone else,we all human. We don't know what the future holds. HIV doesn't make you,it's just a virus you living with,like any other medical issue. I say medical issue not medical problem. Girl do your thing,we need people like you to speak and educate and be a survivor. Show the world,this situation doesn't breaks us,just brings out a better individual within us. I wish you many more BLESSINGS!!!!!

You have an amazing life journey and story to tell. I totally agree with Bonita, I too absolutely love that you stand your ground. I'm having our 1st ever World Aids Day service at my church this year and my main goal is to educate people on this disease. Many people still don't realize that just because you aren't infected doesn't mean you're not affected! When we know better we do better, or as I say "Spread the knowledge, not the disease." Educate Educate Educate! GREAT JOB MARVELYN!

when you're in love, that doesn't mean sexual intercourse is the only way to prove it. If marvelyn just waited a little longer, her partner would start to show symptoms, and she might have just found out he's HIV positive, just before going to bed with him. If he's taking medicines already, she would have known at some point. so the question is, Can't you even wait, for maybe 2 or 3 years of a pure clean non sexual relationship? Some people think it's impossible but guess what? it's possible.

2. Marriage may not be a protection, but at least it's a representation of accountability for both people involved. in marriage you're supposed to live forever with the person, so technically if things get worse, one can't just runaway leaving the other one behind. this is, as oppose to getting laid with someone whom you know but is completely not related to you.

3. Marvelyn, I think you're pathetic. You're selling a book so that you can afford your medical treatments. Do you know that there are places outside America where there people who have completely no access to Condoms? You say things as if it's as easy as 1, 2, 3. If you're so concerned about your advocacy, then donate even the last cent of your income to giving ARV's to HIV positive people, who can't write a book, or to giving out a million pieces of condoms to people who can't even buy food to feed themselves. You keep on talking and talking and talking, but we all know that this is not even half of what you have to do to show your sincerity.

I do think that you're lucky that you have a job, you have a country that gives you medicines for free or at least at a low price. I hope you do know that there are other people in this world who are not as fortunate as you are, that despite being HIV positive, doesn't have the opportunity to sell a book. I do think that if you really care, you should do things more than selling a book, appearing on TV, and just talking and talking and talking. Go to third world countries, live with them, share your medical treatment benefits, share your medicines to people, because for me what you're doing is just a CONVENIENCE ADVOCACY
