Great book. I co-teach an HIV course at University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL (HSC3593 HIV Disease: A Human Concern) and we have added THE NAKED TRUTH to our Assignment 3 activity where students can choose to read a book from our course list and then write a short response paper to questions presented on the book.
What I like about this book is the age focus group. I have been working in the HIV community since 1989 and am always looking for reading material that will help educate individuals about this disease. With all the years many of us have devoted to this pandemic, it is both frustrating and disheartening to learn that 56,000 individuals are still getting infected each year. Our society has got to get it's head out of the sand and get away from abstinence-only education and focus on reality-based education. Without the reality of the disease, individuals are playing Russian Roulette with their lives. Unfortunately, Florida ranks #1 in the nation with HIV transmission and the State is more concerned about tourism then it is HIV Disease education. Many schools teach an abstinence-only curriculum. How can a person teach about STIs when they cannot even mention the importance of using condoms. :>) Sure, I would prefer that pre-adults not engage in sex but the reality is, they are so let us help them stay safe and pregnant-free. I just finished the book and it was great, a must read for all. Thank you Marvelyn for sharing your story.

Outstanding job! I am a self published writer and write about HIV/AIDS. Why? Well, I don't have much time to discuss how it all came about let's just say I lost my son due to a form of cancer (he was only 7 years old) but reaction I got from people about his illness made me think about if the tables were turned. Would people still be as embracing? Honestly, I don't think so. The title of my book is Anonymous, for many reason, Marvelyn, but I truly appalled you for your honesty. What really, really hit home for me was when you spoke about your father. How girls respond to men searching for something they craved from their dad. Girl, I could relate. You just don't know and I am forty years old. You've given me the guts to finally write my memoir. Thank you for understanding and expressing what girls go through with such wit and candidness. I am referring your book to others to help them comprehend how serious this disease is and how to appreciate the little and give of themselves if only to listen to someone in need.

Revision:
I was rushing to write the previous comment because someone was all up in my business. Please forgive the errors.
Outstanding job! Your book made a huge impact on me. I am a writer as well of a book titled Anonymous, and the subject matter is about HIV/AIDS. The reason for me writing the book was to help and educate people, especially young people. Even though my book is fiction it seems to have a significant impact. People mostly frowned when they heard I was writing about HIV, but now they are coming around. I just recently read your book, Marvelyn, and I was truly engrossed. I applaud you for being so honest about your life especailly when you spoke about your father and how "we" as little girls growing into young women feel about not really having our dads around. How we look for someone to fill that empty space. Girl, I can relate. You've given me the courage to write my memoir. Please excuse the comment before but I'm at the library and I have this chick sitting next to me all up in my business. I was trying to type fast so that she could stop reading my comment. I will refer others to your book and hope that it makes a huge impact on them.
Stay blessed and keep doing what you are doing.
